Well, I've put together a list of the most unforgettable day trips from Barcelona you could visit using only public transportation. Get ready because you'll definitely want to add these places to your itinerary!

The Passeig Arqueològic has nice gardens and a spot where you can see the whole town. If the streets look familiar, it's because some scenes from "Game of Thrones" were filmed here. And if you like good food, Girona has one of the best restaurants, El Celler de Can Roca. Just remember to book early!

Tip: Consider planning your visit to avoid Sundays, as many stores and restaurants may be closed. While this might limit your shopping and dining options, the streets will be less crowded.

The fast train leaves from Barcelona-Sants and gets you to Girona in about 35 minutes. If you're on a budget, take the R1 train from Plaça de Catalunya. It's a bit slower, taking about an hour and a half.

Trains run frequently throughout the day, so you have flexibility in choosing your departure time. Plus, the ride is smooth, and the views along the way? Absolutely scenic!

Heads Up on Figueres Train Stations: Figueres has two train stations, and your arrival point depends on the train you hop on. If you're on the regional train, which has a travel time of about 2 hours, you'll pull into the main Figueres station, conveniently located right by the city center. On the other hand, if you opt for the speedy 1-hour fast train, you'll arrive at the Estació AVE. From there, it's a 20-minute stroll to the heart of the city.

Option 1 is the most economical way - combination of train and bus

Train to Blanes: Start by taking a train R1 from Barcelona Sants station to Blanes. The journey typically takes around 1 hour and 20 minutes. Trains are operated by Rodalies de Catalunya, and there are frequent departures throughout the day.

Bus to Tossa de Mar: Upon arriving in Blanes, you can catch a bus to Tossa de Mar. The bus station is near the train station and takes approximately 30 minutes. Buses are operated by Pujol and run regularly, especially during the summer months.

Option 2 is the fastest way - by direct bus

The second option is to take a direct bus from Barcelona's Estació del Nord bus station to Tossa de Mar. The bus ride takes around 1 hour and 30 minutes. Sarfa buses offer several departures daily, but I highly recommend checking the schedule and booking tickets in advance, especially during peak season. I visited at the end of September and managed to snag same-day tickets, but I had to wait for the next available bus since they were full.

From the train station, it's a 30-minute walk to the town center, beaches, and other key attractions. Alternatively, you can opt for public transportation to get around.
