Amid colorful medieval buildings, cobblestone streets, Christmas markets, and delicious food - not to mention cheap wine - is no secret Strasbourg is the world capital of Christmas. The charming town, situated on the eastern border of France with Germany, is the capital of the famous Alsace region.
If you are planning to embark on a road-trip adventure on the Alsace wine road, Strasbourg is where you begin. Make sure to spend at least 2 days exploring Strasbourg's magical streets.

During regular seasons, Strasbourg is as charming as it gets but during the winter holidays, this beautiful town turns into a magical Christmas land.
Christmas lights and ornaments adorn every inch of the town. The many - yes, many - Christmas markets fill the atmosphere with the intoxicating smell of mulled wine. Visitors from around the world wander from stall to stall searching for souvenirs to bring back home or sweets to try - that would be me.
There are a total of 10 Christmas markets that could be leisurely covered in a few hours, distance wise. But if you are like me, you will need at least a day or two to explore and soak in all the festivity.

Christmas markets begin on November 22th and end on December 24th
They are opened every day: Mon – Thur: 11:00 am to 8:00 pm, and Fri – Sat till 9:00 pm
December 24th: from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm, December 25th - Closed.
If you visit Strasbourg after December 24th don’t worry! You will still find a few markets that opens until December 30th. You can also enjoy concerts, events, and the magical decor.

HOW TO ARRIVE IN STRASBOURG
By Train:
Strasbourg is just a short train ride from Paris and many major cities in France. If you are only planning a day trip, visiting Strasbourg from Paris is possible - take the TGV from any train station Paris to Strasbourg. You can get your train ticket here.
By Car:
You can also make your way to Strasbourg by car. The only problem is that during the holiday season, parking in the city center is closed. You will have to find parking off-site and take the tram - but don’t worry, it’s super easy! Find a Relais-Tram car parks, where you can park the car for the day for 4.20 euros (4.70 at Rotonde) and take the tram to the city center. It’s open 24/7 and you can leave your car overnight for an additional fee of 10 euros/per day. Oh, and when you purchase the tram ticket, it covers all the car’s passengers up to 7 people. By Plane:
Strasbourg-Entzheim International is a small airport located in Entzheim. When you arrive you can take the shuttle (runs every 15 minutes) that takes you to the train station. From there, there city center is only 10-15 minutes walk.
HOW DO I GET AROUND STRASBOURG?
Strasbourg is small and you can easily walk the entire town center in less than an hour. They do however, have a very modern tram in case you need to get your legs a break.
WHERE TO EAT IN STRASBOURG
For such a small town, there are a plethora of restaurants for you to choose from. Just makes sure to save up some space for all the delicious sweets you will find in the market. They are hard to resist!

For a traditional and cozy experience, check out Chez Tante Liesel. This restaurant was a lucky find and the food was delicious.
Make sure to make reservations during high season as most restaurants tend to fill up pretty fast and they are known to turn guests away.
